When the original multi award-winning Atomic/Salomon Shift bindings hit the market and our shop in 2018, they revolutionized the ski industry by offering a binding that seamlessly combined full touring capabilities with powerful freeride performance. Now, Atomic and Salomon are back with the upgraded Shift² 10 MN & 13 MN, and we're excited to bring these hybrid bindings to you, promising to elevate your freeride touring experience to the next level. This isn't just an update, Atomic and Salomon call it a leap forward in design, durability, and functionality.
Lets give you the key points first:
Same as before, the Shift² binding will be available in two versions from Atomic, Salomon (& Armada): the Shift² 10 with a DIN 4-10 and Shift² 13 with DIN 6-13.
The Shift² 10’s stated weight is 915 grams per binding and the Shift² 13’s is 920 grams, so they’ve gained about 35 grams compared to the original.
They’re again available with the same 90, 100, 110, and 120 mm brake widths, as well as the same Shift-specific 100 mm and 120 mm ski crampons.
The Shift² uses the same mounting / hole pattern as the original Shift binding.
Continuing the Shift Legacy: At our shop, we've seen firsthand how the Atomic Shift transformed skiing, becoming the world’s first binding to offer both tech binding functionality for hiking and robust downhill performance in one package. It allowed our customers to skin up using pins, then transform into a regular functioning downhill binding for the descent. This groundbreaking design redefined what skiers could expect from their equipment, and the Shift² MN is set to carry that legacy forward.
Athlete-Inspired Innovation: The Shift² 10 & 13 MN have important upgrades, coming from the needs of the most demanding skiers, including feedback from Atomic's freeride athletes. We are carrying these bindings into our shop because they’ve been improved for even greater durability, power, and versatility. The new Micro AFD (Anti-Friction Device) provides a more precise fit with the boot interface then the previous Shift, and the aluminum Power Block inside the AFD adds 30% more lateral stiffness, leading to improved power transfer and control on those challenging descents.
Built for Durability and Power: Atomic and Salomon didn’t stop at improving just one aspect of the binding. The Shift² 13 MN also features larger toe wings for increased shock resistance, an oversized toe lever for enhanced stability and durability, and a redesigned brake lever that locks more reliably and prevents unintentional releases. These upgrades ensure that the binding can handle the toughest conditions without compromising performance.
Touring Made Easier: Touring is all about efficiency, and the Shift² MN’s updated climbing aid, which adds 4mm of lift, makes those long ascents just a little bit easier. And with Multi Norm Certification, the binding fits every normed boot on the market, offering unmatched versatility. Whether you’re hiking to an untouched powder field or navigating technical terrain, this binding is designed to make your adventure smoother and more enjoyable.
The Perfect Balance of Performance: What sets the Shift² MN apart from other bindings is its ability to balance full touring capabilities with robust construction for powerful downhill performance. No compromises, no sacrifices—just pure, fun skiing. Whether you're an expert freerider looking to push the limits or a backcountry enthusiast seeking new adventures, the Shift² MN is the binding that can do it all.
What we think: We’re very excited about the new Atomic/Salomon Shift² 10 MN & 13 MN bindings and so should you! They build on the original Shift’s groundbreaking design with important key upgrades that should make this binding the Go-To option if you are in the market for a touring/freeride combo binding!
